People like to make their own guitars…

…and it’s not a simple thing. The relationship of wood to metal to electro-magnetic signal path (to say nothing of the essential philosophy of how disparate parts work together to make a coherent whole) calls for not a little luck. Here Leo & Trevor are supplying some luck to two homemade guitars; instruments that carry a strong level of emotional resonance for their creators.

That’s my blue creation there, from my days as a cabinetmaker. The guitar is nearly 30 years old, made from zebrawood and the most amazing quilted maple I’d ever seen before or since. They didn’t even have a name for it back then; I pulled four sticks of it out of a stack of maple, and paid as I recall $1.25 a board foot -same price as plain maple solid stock. The idea is these guys can make the guitar play as beautifully as it looks. Can’t wait to find out!!!
